How this directory works

This page explains what's actually behind the listings on this site — what gets included, how it gets checked, and what we deliberately don't do.

What we include

Organizations providing mental health, medical, or social services to Missouri residents — nonprofits, government programs, community clinics, hotlines, and similar resources. We prioritize free and low-cost services, since cost is often the biggest barrier to getting help in the first place.

We don't require an organization to pay, apply, or partner with us to be listed. Inclusion is based on whether a service is real, currently operating, and useful to someone searching this site — nothing else.

How we verify listings

Every listing is checked directly before it goes live — a phone number or address pulled from another directory is a starting point, not a finished entry. We call, or check the organization's own website, before marking anything as verified.

Every listing gets rechecked at least every six months. You'll see this reflected on each listing itself: a green “Verified” line means it was confirmed within the last six months; an amber one means it's due for a recheck, so it's worth confirming details directly with the organization before you rely on them.

Nothing skips this process. A listing doesn't go live just because someone submitted it — it moves through the same verification step as everything else first.

What we don't do

We don't accept payment for placement, and we don't rank listings by anything other than relevance. Being listed here is not an endorsement of an organization's quality, and it isn't a guarantee — it means we found the organization and confirmed the details shown are accurate as of the verification date.

If that ever changes — if a category sponsorship or paid placement is introduced in the future — this page will say so plainly. It doesn't right now.

Where this is right now

This directory is early. A few categories have real, verified listings today; most are still being built out. We'd rather launch a category once it actually has something useful in it than fill it with placeholder entries just to look complete. If a category looks thin, that's honest — it means we haven't gotten to it yet, not that nothing exists.

How to help

The fastest way this directory improves is people who know Missouri's actual resources telling us what we're missing.

Where the information comes from

We draw on Missouri 211, the Missouri Department of Mental Health, and direct outreach to organizations, on top of our own verification. Full sources & methodology.
